Reported 3 days ago that Proterial (formerly Hitachi Metals) has developed an iron boron magnet motor that performs similar to a neodymium based motor but without the reliance on China for rare earth. Report can be found on Nikkie news service. Sounds like not a perfect substitute and my understanding is that neodymium advantage is strength versus weight. Also the next catalyst imo may be robots which would definitely need a high strength to weigh ratio magnet and a lot if everyone in the world is to have a robot with AI enabled movement. Anyone have a view on this. Maybe it will come up with Amanda at next call Monday in Sydney.
