Remember that the ASX is a listed company. Shorting is a revenue stream for them, and they will lobby the government against any reversal. Shorting an over inflated company or industry probably fair enough, but seems to me here in Oz, it does seem to get abused by the financial players "boys club", with the retail investors copping it in the neck. As far as I know, there is no "shorting product" available for retail to join in with the big boys, which I suspect, the last thing the big boys is to get retail in on the act. Just my observations over the years on the ASX.
