It's not that the universe had no beginning in its present form, it did. In its present form is the key to understanding the question of a beginning to time or no beginning to time. The question iswhether or not it may be cyclic or a part of a greater system....which means that time had no beginning and universes come and go, and our universe formed from a larger system or it recycled, a fresh start 13 billion years ago, but not from nothing. That is what is not known, whether time began with the universe or that there was something before our universe formed 13 billion years ago, if you can see the distinction.
