You've got that one wrong Chappy.
If you look at Australia's emissions as a whole, which is the point, it is easy to understand.
Chappy living off grid in a cave isn't going to do much for Australia's emissions. But, millions of Australians accessing renewable energy via the grid does make a big difference.
The idea is to reduce the whole country's emissions. And, it is also the smart way to do it. Why would you even try and put renewable sources where they aren't suited ? That would be incredibly inefficient.
So, you put them where they perform best. Big solar farms where it is sunny and on land that isn't much good for anything else. Offshore windfarms out of eyesight, well away from humans and birds, in an area where they perform better than on land. All grid connected so that anyone can access them.
Over time as we build more renewables and we build the storage to smooth them out, the more our emissions will drop as a country.
Which is the whole point.
It also means less impact on lifestyle. If people can live in a home as they do now, the only difference being that it's powered by renewables rather than fossil, that's a great thing.
