There are countries that have clean power. Because I was there recently Iceland is 73% hydro and 30% geo thermal and 0.2% carbon. These are unique situations Wind solar geo thermal hydro all need to grow but for many areas this is not economically feasible to take on a major portion of load. I am dead against pressurized water enriched uranium nuclear power. The only reason it grew so fast is the US government gave the technology to GE and a few others companies for free. JMO but nuclear will be the future. Look up travelling wave reactors. Many times safer and they are self-regulating. They use depleted uranium so no problems getting the fuel to plant. They are fuel once run for 50 or so years then shut down with fuel inside. The fuel can be handled safely, with proper procedures, after 100 years. It is still radioactive but nothing like enriched uranium.

I know traveling wave can also use thorium. There is enough DU in storage to fuel the whole world for 100s of years and more being made every day. Bomb maintance fuel rods both have depleted Uranium as a waste product. DU in storage is in a ready to use state. Thorium would need extensive processing before it could be used. Could thorium work? Yes it could, it makes no sense.
