BloombergThe battery innovator is expected to raise between $40 million to $50 million via an initial public offering.Headed by CEO Lee Finniear, the business wants to create the next generation of batteries, harness the power of lithium-sulphur, which is a potentially much stronger and longer-lasting combination for a battery than lithium-ion, but has been too volatile for battery and electronic product makers.AdvertisementSuch batteries are critical for the explosion of mobile phones, notebook computers, electronic accessories, medical devices, drones, and internet-connected smart devices.The secret to the company’s solution lies in boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs), which can work inside lithium-sulphur batteries to keep them stable and also lower re-charge times. BNNTs are super flexible fibres that are 100 times stronger than steel, but as light as carbon fibre.Li-S Energy is the result of a joint venture between billion-dollar ASX-listed Ppk Group, BNNT Technology Limited and Deakin University, which created a patented manufacturing process of BNNTs."
