@Joannie once you have seen the variety of veggies available everywhere, you won't want to plant - I would like to have my own herbs, though, because they are expensive to buy, and I have successfully grown the little tomatoes in a pot - again, for my own use, they probably cost me more in water than if I had bought them in the shop.

I have also pondered - only pondered - the idea of growing potatoes in a large container, say a drum, because home-grown potatoes are lovely and abundant and dirt-cheap, when compared to shop prices.

I am awaiting my regular gardeners visit with some trepidation, as I asked him for advice on growing roses - and haven't done a thing about it, but will go for the geranium idea instead, as suggested by you, @NoBoDe and other people on here - even I can't destroy them.
