I have identified 3 posts by our frankly speaking man on the role DCE plays in determining - influencing IO price. Each expresses completly different opinion, he covered himself on 3 fronts and can quote whatever is convenient on a particular occasion. As you observed, if one produces enormous amount of garbage then one can always find something useful in later arguments.
