The world of science is a complex one and fortunately one where robust and productive differences of opinion exist. I clearly remember one of my favourite physicists, Cambridge Professor Sir Fred Hoyle being proved wrong (at least for the time being) in rejecting the "Big Bang" theory. That clearly well informed opinion casts doubt on yesterday's announcement is healthy and in our interests.
We are shareholders in a business, and while that business has a scientific basis with all the proprietary that good science requires, management must seek to maximise their and our opportunities as best they can. Did they specifically conduct an experiment in a way which would produce these results? I doubt it. Did they conduct a genuine series of experiments which they suspected would create interests from the big pharmaceutical firms, I suspect they did. That is the difference between pure science and science in business and good on them for doing so.
