Had I realised how poor the sandy soil was here I would have done things different, reality is i was rather naive thinking use to be market gardens here so just add water LOL. I now know that the Italian and Slav market gardeners here used lots of NPK blue
So I had a list of fruit trees I wanted and gave little consideration to what was suitable here, a few failed and some struggled but I do now have quite a few that I have managed to get established.
Stone fruit are far from struggling, this is the peach tree last year with a much smaller crop than previous year because I gave it a heavy prune. It's just the fruit flies get to them despite spraying, yes didn't use traps last year they didn't work previous years. I think the peach tree does particular well because it's planted near the septic system
This is what I have done for my other fruit trees to give them even deep watering with sheep poo for mulch, the PVC ring has holes drilled in the underside. For this mango tree I think I need to increase the size of the PVC ring now to better match the drip line. I also have throw some rusty nails around it.
lime induced chlorosis, in was in some Gardening Australia article that tipped me off to the Calcium induced chlorosis calcium lime pretty much the same.
As for shelter, there is a ridge line between me and the coast which is just over 1km away so quit protected from the prevailing SW winds so I get little more than a breeze when it's blowing
Dragon fruit flower open last night, quite spectacular, but my hand in to shake up the pollen. Just now took an look was a couple of bees in there, had 8 flower on this one last year but no fruit. Fingers crosses
