Work out right time to plant it and pick a variety that works in your area.
I always keep a few cloves over from this year to re sow for next year crop.
And keep improving your soils.......compost compost compost.....your "girls" and "boys?" can help with that.
Keep the weeds under control, although a having a weed now and again can be beneficial.
I couldn't get onions to grow here for yonks and bulb up until I read cream gold variety works in my area and to plant it around the shortest day of the year.

Garlic is easy, but you need to pick your variety, ( depending on your location) as some need a length of cold,and lead time is a year.
