Yes bait station work for rats and mice, and keeping the baits away from pets is the reason to use them
I do find that you need to change to different type baits from time to time. Seems rats work out what is killing them and avoid it after a while.
Having chooks the rats turn up and I don't want the chooks to get at the bail
