PMF You are right in a way but I would say the economic deposits are few but tend not to be tiny. There are quite a few of sub-econmic ~ 70MT <1ppm 3 PGE <0.15% <0.15% Ni deposits. But most of the economic deposits tend to be pretty big when you get them and yes you are correct they may only be a smaller portion of overall sulphide mineralisation say 10-25% of the contact sulphide zone (in this Ni-Cu-PGE Platreef, Kola, Kevitsa, Julimar style) they can still get up to the couple of hundred million to billion tonne range.
e.g. See Platreef, 500m wide, grade block X-Section below. Reef is 100m thick and economic grades for UG mining occupy ~ 25% of the thickness. Note good lateral extent and continuity of individual grade zones- Which when you get economic mineralisation is favourable to the development of larger deposits.
Agreed there is a lot to go before Calisto can be shown to be economic - will the grades hold-up over a substantial area? Will it stay near surface and Open Pitable? Which is why I am out of GAL (fully priced for success) and in GSR as they have a good backing on the gold side of things CNJ maybe if they come down a bit more as Greenland also has a long way to go.
