Could GEM and other smaller cap companies (looking at your FXL) be victims of investors selling to meet margin calls? With the blue chips so heavily pounded by the market dip I can imagine the borrowing power of a lot of people has been seriously reduced.
And nothing triggers selling like other people selling so we start a downward spin?
Add going ex-div, coronavirus irrational fears and a shakey economy and down the sp goes?
