In 1969 Poseidon started at about $1 when they hit a bonanza nickel intersection at Mt Windarra in WA.
The nickel price itself was booming and this caused a classic over exuberance in the Poseidon shares.
The price went from about $1 to about $280 in a matter of months and then took about 3 years to go back down.
I've always figured that anyone who bought at say $1 and hadn't sold at least 50% of their holdings by the time they hit $100 were probably never going to sell.
Plus, it took a few months to go up and a few years to go down and yet somehow, anecdotally, more people lost money than made money which is hard to believe.
The Mt Windarra nickel deposit was mined for many years after 1969.
