Exactly the same way as you place any order. It will just be settled around the 4.10pm close depending on all of the orders applied in the time between 4pm and approximately 4.10pm. This generally varies slightly rather that exactly at 4.10 so that people can't just apply big buys or sells and pull them at the last second to influence the price.
This is why when you look at the market depth from the close of market until the end of the auction there can be quite a few in the buyers above the price, and in the sellers below the price. At the end of the auction they are basically averaged out and that is the price the SP settles on for the day.
