Agreed. anything and everything in life can be exploited. Shorting is another way to make money from a falling share based off someone's sentiment that they believe a company is overvalued. The act in itself doesn't mean everyone has a motive to push a stock lower.
thats not to say that what has occurred wasn't manipulation, but shorting itself is just another way a person makes money if the market falls.
