Its interesting that the small caps newsletter that arrived in my email inbox this morning has a major article on shorting and possible action by ASIC.




A lot of the description of the actions and lies told by shorters could have been taken from observations of the ADN share action and forums over the past month. I know that there is a particularly high level of shorting going on the moment across the market (and even more claims of shorting by companies that are genuinely and legitimately falling in value) but ADN looks like a particularly text book example of the "craft".

Anyway, ASIC is apparently looking to create protocols where companies could/should ask the ASX for a trading halt while preparing statements to counter genuine misinformation. I guess that's a start, but I would think that penalties should apply for deliberate (and perhaps repeated) trashing of a company's reputation with false information.
