For those that are interested I have tried to compile majority of the shorting data I can find.

As the ASX and ASIC sites mention when they post the numbers "No responsibility is accepted for any inaccuracies contained in the matter published". As it is the responsibility of the brokers to report, I feel that this is not always recorded on time, hence the fact there are negative values in the 'Purchased Back on Day' column.

I just have some calculations in the background to compare the 'Shorted for the Day' (ASX), 'Outstanding Shorts' (ASIC) and the running total. As most are aware if they have been tracking, the ASIC data is T+4, hence why it trails the ASX data which is the next day.

The volume is taken from a chart and does not include Chi-X. I can only find one chart that shows the Chi-X volume as well as ASX, but it is not a dynamic chart so I can't get the true value. This sways it a bit as the Chi-X volume can sometimes be as much as the ASX. It does however give a bit of a comparison (if anyone can get the true volume, please let me know and I can update).

Please don't take the table as gospel as I am only transposing the numbers we can obtain, so my disclaimer is that there are very likely discrepancies, however it does appear to give a pretty good feel for what is happening. And with the data up to the latest 'Outstanding Shorts' value, the last four days indicates that the covering is slightly greater than the shorting. However, tomorrows numbers will line up with the 4M+ short day, so will be interesting to see how that pans out.

I will try to keep up-to-date and post as often as I can for now if people think it is a worthy exercise. I hope you can get something from it.
