My main theory is that those shorting are hoping to keep a lid on the SP until March, where if we fall out of the all ords there will be large volume available and usually a drop in SP like you mentioned.
Huge 'if' though, with ML, DFS, potential debt funding, concrete and/or HPA advancements I'd wager the SP will be above 20c at a minimum this year let alone next year. Breaking ground in Feb also could give the SP a boost prior to the rebalance
