Markets have had a peak rate of 3% give or take priced in for a while now. Maybe mums and dads just weren’t paying attention, but the only thing marginally surprising about yesterday is that it was 10bps higher than most forecasters expected. If that has spooked our large retail base into selling with some help from those who shall not be named, fair enough, but it’s a shame.
