The Great White Kaolin Project at Poochera has taken another step forward.

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) has been agreed between the Streaky Bay District Council and Andromeda Metals, establishing a basis for the two parties agreeing on the design, development, construction and ongoing use of Poochera-Port Kenny Road for the purposes of supporting mining operations and product transport.

The kaolin project has an approximate 28-year life-of-mine expectancy and would produce about 250,000 tonnes of kaolin product annually once full production capacity is reached.

Kaolin ore and product will be trucked from the site along Poochera-Port Kenny Road and Streaky Bay Road to Eyre Highway, then on to port facilities.

Streaky Bay District Council chief executive officer Damian Carter said the MOU would define the spirit to work towards construction.

“This is another step forward for the project to go ahead.”

Andromeda manager of investor relations and corporate affairs Patrick Sinclair said the MOU would formalise the understanding the company has with the council.

“The MOU is intended to facilitate agreement on road construction, management and ongoing use,” he said.

“Specifically, in support of road infrastructure adjacent to the site of Andromeda’s planned mining operations.”

Andromeda also signed land purchase agreements and lodged its Program for Environment Protection and Rehabilitation (PEPR) last week.

Andromeda managing director James Marsh said this was an “important milestone”.

“The agreements and submission of the PEPR signify important milestones achieved in progressing the Great White Kaolin Project,” he said.

“They follow months of extensive stakeholder consultations with landholders and the broader Eyre Peninsula community.”
