Firstly, how could someone who hasn't sold be said to have been significantly burnt? Paper burns you mean? Are they the same as real burns?
And the other side of the hypothetical coin is that some who bought in when it surged and then panic sold later might find out that they were victims of a scare campaign and that the company does genuinely have a big future, and so might thus realise the error of their ways and want to buy in again. It's not like there's a whole lot on the sell side.
