Traders will be adding their profits to all their other income and pay tax at whatever marginal rate that income takes them to. So if their profits are large their tax will correspondingly be large.

With investors the income does not get added to your income, is subject to CGT, which is fixed at 30% if you sell within the first year and drops to 15% after that 12 months period. It can also be offset against any other CGT losses that you may have accumulated.

If your levels of investment are very small this may be insignificant, but if you are lining up to make a very handsome profit in 12 to 18 months (and beyond), then that can be a huge number.

I like your strategy... mainly because it is all the same as mine and I don't want to give my hard-earned loot to him the taxman.
