Making shares available for shorting

Where a shareholder holds shares as either Issue sponsor or via CHESS, your stockbroker cannot entry into a share lending agreement with your shares without your approval.

You should check your agreement with your broker to ensure that it was not included in the fine print.

If you use some of the new fintech brokers that may not be the case - for example HERO-individual investors do not have their own HIN, shares purchased are pooled onto one account. In the case, you may find they can be lent, however check the agreement you entered into when you set up the account.
