Eyre Peninsula has some narrow gauge rail-lines built to get grain to ports. One siding is at Poochera between the ports of Port Lincoln and Thevenard / Ceduna.
Two problems, the lines have been allowed to deteriorate and last i heard (could be wrong) no longer carry traffic.
Secondly, neither of those two ports are container ports.
So to get containers to a container port (Whyalla or possibly Port Adelaide) needs road transport. All perfectly doable of course but as the last DFS said - 50% of all costs was freight (road & sea).
Once again, all doable, but need a very good BOA price per tonne to cover this.
