Range is so important for life and for business, whereas specialisation more for academia.
Although I get the feeling academia is more a zero-sum circle jerk where getting ahead means pandering to peer reviews..
The real superpower as you said is learning and understanding complex things quickly. Usually this comes from solid foundations of generalist knowledge.
