If meeting lots of people regularly, it doesn't hurt to minimize your chances of sickness.
It shouldn't stop PM2.5 (which is currently very high in Thailand). It should stop a cough, but more-so to protect the other people rather than the wearer. But if they all wear them, then it protects the wearer from other people coughing too.
