That was amply demonstrated during the early days of the pandemic with AdBlue, a diesel additive which reduces emissions. The vast majority of it comes from China. When they, along with the rest of the world, shutdown for a period of time, the lack of the product almost shut down out entire trucking fleet. It's essentially ammonia (or urea) which could be made anywhere but it was cheapest from China and thus people stupidly bought the cheapest product without thinking thought the true ramifications of such an action. Less true today but still exists. I only read the other day that Gallium, which is used in many medical imaging procedures amongst a myriad of other things, comes almost exclusively from China (98%). So if anything were to occur with Taiwan and trade stopped, the effect upon the wider world would be huge.
Graphite is only a small part of the picture but you get the idea of diversification away from China is not only smart but incredibly important in numerous ways.
