APT have done an extremely good deal of work to get the merchants on board which has increased their sales for a percentage of the sale. I am not sure what A competitors model would be however, not impossible to go after the APT model but they will have to better the 4% clip of sales to get retailers on board. There lies the risk for APT as they may have to battle to keep merchants over a competitor causing a squeeze in that 4% clip. Or maybe not.

Given the retailer only pays if a sale is made, they have no reason to drop the APT pay systems if another competitor comes along as it will give the consumer another method of payment which they can already do if they have an existing credit card anyway. The key difference at the moment compared to credit cards etc is APT do not charge the customer 1c for their purchase. This is a big competitive advantage over credit cards who charge exorbitant interest rates. As long as you pay your payments on time you get don’t get charged any fees for purchasing the product, the retailer does. Hence, any competitors are going to have to adopt a similar model to take customers from them.
