    Because US Treasury Bonds are the safest investment on the planet...that's why.

    Why don't you send an email to the US Treasury and ask them? I sent an email to the Federal Reserve a few years ago to prove conclusively that the Fed doesn't own one ounce of gold....and they replied. I still have that email.
