I am not sure why people even buy "Hybrids" when there are Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles. Many people don't know the difference.

"Hybrids" burn fuel to charge their battery and run off the electric motor. This means the owner is still using fossil fuels to run their car - just a but more efficiently in some driving modes.

Plug-in hybrids allow drivers to use mainly electricity from the grid and renewal sources such as home solar/battery. The onboard fuel and combustion engine is only used to extend range. The cost to run and amount of fossil fuel used is orders of magnitude less for normal city driving. In Australia, these are more of a transitional car. Combine a big battery and a modest backup fuel charger and this makes the car viable for a much larger application range.
