IMO, Stock market is no longer just a place for the small potatoes investing for the long term. It’s now dominated and controlled by the big end of town... using derivatives etc to manipulate thr market.
Finance wasnt a pretty place to work in during GFC. If you are just learnin about economics, watch The Big Short and a fairly old one called Margin Call.
Read up on “Ninja loans” - these loans was a contributor to GFC. Four Corners did an excellent segment on these loans a few years back. It will give you a basic understanding that when one economic powerhouse catches the cold, the others will get it to.
