Why am I not surprised this is being postulated under ALP oversight:

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12367203/Major-change-superannuation-Surprising-new-push-Australians-use-retirement-savings.html

Older Australians could be forced to use their superannuation for aged care or pay an inheritance tax on their estate, under a radical proposal put to the federal government.

All taxpayers, regardless of their age, could also be forced to pay a higher Medicare levy that funds aged care, with costs set to escalate under a Labor policy demanding an on-call nurse at all times.

The group's chief executive Tom Symondson, who is a member of the government's Aged Care Taskforce, said 'those with the means should be asked to pay for' accommodation and lifestyle expenses.

The issues paper also suggested an inheritance tax be charged to a deceased estate for 'superannuation if it is not used for retirement as intended'.

This is despite Australia abolishing inheritance taxes in July 1979, a year after Queensland's eccentric National Party premier Joh Bjelke-Petersen led the charge to get rid of death duties.
