I agree 100% that the bureaucrats run the country.
BUT, in this representative democracy, our representatives make all sorts of promises to us so we elect them.
We trust them to do the right thing by us - as was done by great Premiers like Sir Henry Bolte, Sir Charles Court, the greatest Premier ever, IMO, Mr Eric Reece of Tasmania, etc. These great Premiers would have dictated to the bureaucrats and given them a solid size 12 up their behind.
These Premiers were governing for the good of their State and their people first and foremost. What has happened since then is that the pollies are governing for themselves first, their big mates a close second and the people and State are the proverbial length of Flemington Straight last!!
