why would you subtract the repayments?
They're irrelevant. Regardless of what you've put in in terms of interest and/or principle, you still now have an asset totalling $1.4mill.
Just like shares, you buy $100 worth of shares that are now worth $200. You wouldnt take away the $100 you put in from what theyre worth.
