Ok, 'sidetracking to avoid a downthrow block' seems a wise call especially if the seismics didnt pick it. It would have been an operations risk had they kept drilling. With the DT block, in this instance one wouldnt know how far they would have to drill thro' the repeat litho section, hence the decision to sidetrack.
Simply put, try visualising this. U r standing at a lookout point near a valley & looking downwards into the valley & see the bottom, that vertical displacement from where u r standing (termed as a footwall) & to the valley bottom (termed as hanging wall) is called the "throw" & the bottom becomes y'r downthrow block. Inverse of this is viewing from the VB to the top, that becomes yr upthrow block.
3rd week of Dec should b exciting until then not much to say.
