    Did you even read what you copied and pasted from wikipedia? So I guess the massive stock market and property bubble in the 80s had nothing to do with it? Just the lack of migration according to you....

    So if immigration was as economically beneficial as you make it out to be Australia's immigration why is the GDP/capita only slightly above where we were 10 years ago when immigration has been turbocharged and went through a massive mining/property/GDP boom?

    GDP per capita that should be the only metric people look at and Aus has been declining significantly over the past 5 years. There are more people and so any "growth" is split between more people. Also GDP includes all the land clearing of native habitats, building flammable skykennels to replace houses and building mass toll road networks as "growth" which I'm sure everyone loves and wants to see a lot more of.

    I'm not at all concerned with a shrinking population from lower migration- in fact it should be encouraged. Automation and increased life expectancy over the next 20-30 years is going to mean fewer jobs so it makes perfect sense that we need less people to support
