Two main players in any futures markets are hedgers and speculators. Specualtors provide liquidity for hedgers and also assume the hedgers risk so as to profit.
Futures market are a place where risk is traded as well as the commodity.
Oil speculators aren't the cause of all the market problems contrary to popular belief. I'm an oil speculator and I short it as much as I go long.
