The trouble with believing in the past to predict the future is in not taking into a/c the unprecented recent events and changes of our times. I don't know my history that well so I'm not sure if a country that has been the dominant world power for 60 years ever became a basket case within 3.
I think when the U.S. gave the world Jerry Springer it was a sure sign that something was going wrong, and sure enough before long they gave us GFC1.
The world is changing fast :- The fairy tale of WMD, the Gulf War, Sept. 11, Afghanistan the emergence of China and India with their growth stories. The relevence of history is declining.
Basically I'm saying we live in crazy, uncertain times and I can't see it getting any better soon. Historically folk have bought Gold in times like these but does that count today?
Anyway, I have cheap Gold shares, I like gambling.
ps. Skols company sells Metal Detectors, that's my theory :)
