USA pilots are far cheaper than Australia. Pilots fly around for 20K a year and get food stamps, See the Michael Moore film?? I think it was in love with capitalism as a title but nothing to do with capitalism.
The trouble appears to be regulation.
There are not enough pilots especially part time pilots. It looks like the world needs about 600K of part time pilots that can do one shift or two maybe for a week while they do their other careers, The airline industry needs to get back into the real world otherwise they will be replaced by robots and remote control!! Trying for pilots and continuous training and role allocations clearly have to be streamlined to be far more competitive!!
The airline industry is suffering from gold plating and protectionism clearly!! Markets for pilots have to open up to increase supply
