The MWD probably has a pressure sensor(s) on the tool but it only measures static mud density while not circulating and ECD while circulating. It can't measure formation pressure. It's main use is having an accurate measurement of ECD. Useful for well security and can also indicate downhole issues like cuttings loading up in the annulus.
