We picked up a little 2 month old off the street a couple of years ago. She is an inside cat but we take her into the yard supervised for an hour or so a day now. We started with 5 mins for a few weeks then 10 then more.

Now she tells us when she wants to go out (as I brew my afternoon coffee) and then races me to the door and we both go out.

I found slowly escalating the time out for her was great and she shows no interest in climbing fences just chasing lizards, brings them to me, I release them and they know same thing will happen next day :)
