That really depends on your affinity to work. If you are the traditional Australian "freeloader", then the future of Australia does not equal your own interests.

You want a social security system which you can leech off for the rest of your life without needing to lift a finger. You want the social security system to be sustainable for at-least 40 years so you can leech off it until you die. You want this, because it is "Australian". This is Labour. This is minimum wage, unionization, dole, free money give aways, and the rest of the shabang.

A healthy economy is made by hard working individuals, and sustained by hard working individuals and benefits hard working individuals. Intersts are perfectly aligned. If you're not a hard working individual (aka. traditional Australian freeloader with mentality dating back to the pre-gold era), of course competitive markets are bad for you.
