The talk of DRED devices in the article omits the fact that at the moment any manufacturer wanting to implement DRED on their product must get approval/certification from every electrical distribution company that the device is to connect to. This is despite the fact that the smart meters all conform to the same Zigbee communication specs. Makes you wonder how serious the government/energy providers are about renewables. But then again, I guess we already knew that ! Bring on the next election.
