It's probabaly all about Outback Logisitics for Emergency Services etc that it is being revamped for a new future. Leigh Creek is better positioned to support the far north, it's airstrip is very close to town and is in better shape perhaps. 90 minutes south is Hawker, it's airstrip is 7kms out of town and just a dirt strip initially and only has one runway.
Just a thought.
