You can take this a lot further. Sometimes detergents don't remove all contaminants alone. For a strip clean, you also need sodium borate and soda crystals. Other cleans require white vinegar etc. If the machines had a reservoir of cleaning products, the processor could determine the right mix, does it need a pre-wash with another ingredient etc.
My 15 year old LG top loader has fuzzy logic. It determines how much water goes in by the weight, then illuminates a light on the panel to tell you how much it is and therefore how much detergent powder is required. 1/4 cup, 1/2 cup etc
