"Dishonesty 'part of PM's public life'" August 23, 2004
DISHONESTY had become a part of public life for Prime Minister John Howard, Opposition Leader Mark Latham said today.
Mr Latham said truth in government should be a foundation of public administration and "Mr Howard's dishonesty was part of the pattern".
"I think for him after all this time in public office it's become a way of life and unfortunately it spilled into the national security area against the best interests of our country," Mr Latham said in Sydney.
The Labor leader's comments came after it was reported that Mr Howard and his senior colleagues were repeatedly told by intelligence analysts that the conflict in Iraq would harm the war on terrorism by fanning Islamic extremism.
"Mr Howard went out and said the opposite, in contradiction of that advice from intelligence analysts," Mr Latham said.
