Neither yesterday's employment figures, nor the consumer confidence numbers back you up there. As Costello and the BIS Schrapnel guy both observed, the figures we are getting now are despite a wall of worries - drought, war, SARS, terrorism. Aside from the fact that the reverberations from the latter are receding, the breaking of the drought alone should see significant improvement in the Australia economy from here.
September/October is never a good time to express an optimistic outlook, but I don't think things are anywhere near as bad as the Doomsayers would have it.
