This event, about which people don't know the full facts, is being used as a platform to have a go at equality.

A LOT of space has been dedicated to posts telling us all why it's the fault of having women on duty.

The point being that there was no forewarning of a terrorist attack. While some procedures and training need to be revised, the argument that women are unable to discharge duties appropriately is ridiculously taking advantage of the situation. You get ranters in here. Anti women, anti this, anti that.

    Seriously.

Are people waiting for the facts of this situation to emerge before rushing to judgement? Surely the critical thing is the element of surprise, as I keep on reiterating. While burly blokes might be able to defend themselves in some situations, in others they've been overwhelmed. So far there is no credible information that males would have necessarily fared better in the circumstances. We simply don't know.

An experienced police officer has commented, but rather typically his opinion has been ignored.

I could be forgiven for starting to lose faith in social media. It's not necessarily a place for cautious, reasoned and informed discussion, is it?
